ONVIF Member Profile: A Q&A with Ability Enterprise

What does Ability do? What services, or products, do you provide?
Ability has been a leading ODM/OEM service provider of digital imaging equipment since 1965, possessing expertise in image quality tuning and decades of experience in product design, development, and production. Our products include digital still cameras, wearable cameras, action cameras, dash cameras, security cameras and fast-growing smart edge cameras that are present in Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) applications.

How long has Ability been in the physical security market?
Ability entered the security market in 2014. We continue to channel new energies to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) development to be a major innovator of smart edge cameras. As AIoT continues to have an impact across different market segments and verticals, we become more and more aspired to create AIoT products with a broad portfolio of features.

Why did you join ONVIF and how long has your company been a member of ONVIF?
We joined ONVIF in 2020 to ensure connectivity and communication among different devices and systems. It also helps us to design a wide range of AIoT cameras that can be deployed to augment many existing systems.

To which specific profiles does your company’s products conform and why is that beneficial to your business?
Ability’s Smart Cameras conform to Profile S. This helps our partners across different application fields to benefit from flexible, cost-effective and future-proof system integration. We have also been accredited by our customers as a very strategic partner in transforming their industries intelligently.

What does it mean to you to be a member of ONVIF and what kinds of business impacts have you seen as a result?
Using ONVIF protocols as a standard API, our smart edge cameras can easily integrate with many surveillance systems. This greatly reduces cost and shortens development time to incorporate AI capabilities in the existing systems.

Are there any specific benefits it brings to your business?
We have been working with system integrators in many verticals around the globe to implement our edge AI solutions in fields such as surveillance, smart retail, long-term care, security and safety, and fitness and recreation.

Define the importance of interoperability to your company.
For IoT to flourish, the connected devices and related data need a standardized interface for efficient communication and data exchange. ONVIF orchestrates standardized interfaces so that network security products are interoperable with each other. Further, conformant products using open standards have the advantage of seamless connectivity as well as compatibility with other electronic access control systems and video management systems. As a member of ONVIF, Ability Enterprise Co., Ltd. is proud to design and manufacture ONVIF conformant smart cameras that are capable of powerful edge computing to fuel AIoT development.
