ONVIF to Host Open Networking Reception at IFSEC 2011

San Ramon, CA. – May 6, 2011. ONVIF, the leading standardization initiative for IP-based physical security products, announced that it will host an open networking breakfast at the upcoming IFSEC 20011 trade show in Birmingham, England. The event provides an opportunity for members of the security industry to get a firsthand update on ONVIFs work and the current and future impacts on the market of the ONVIF specification.

Attendees at the breakfast event will hear from Jonas Andersson, Axis Communications and Chairman of ONVIFs Steering Committee, who will discuss ONVIFs swift adoption rate over the past six months and provide perspective on the groups recent interoperability demonstration at ISC West 2011, held in April in the United States. That event, which brought together nearly 250 attendees, more than half of whom were first time or attendees unaffiliated with ONVIF, demonstrated the compatibility of IP video technology from 23 different companies using the ONVIF specification.

With nearly 800 conformant products available on the market, representing products from 280 member companies, the ONVIF specification is steadily reaching a critical mass of adoption, Andersson said.

The industry has overwhelmingly chosen ONVIF as the preferred specification on which to base their future product development, Andersson said. With our existing Core Specification 2.0, we’ve established a solid framework for interoperability and are now working to expand the scope and functionalities of the specification in future releases.

With the release of the ONVIF Core Specification 2.0 to encompass video storage, display devices, video analytics and other areas, ONVIF is getting closer to its goal of providing a global open network interface standard for physical security equipment. The expansion of the scope to include physical access control systems is slated for release in 2011.

More information about ONVIF conformant products, including the vendors and the conformant models, is available on ONVIFs website: www.onvif.org.

The ONVIF networking breakfast will be held at 9 a.m., Wednesday, May 18 in Piazza Suites; Suite 5 of the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, England.
