Greetings from Per Björkdahl!

Happy New Year! 2014 was another great year for ONVIF, which saw its membership rise to a steady count of above 500 and stretch across six continents. ONVIF’s growth is a reflection of just how important standards for interoperability are for the physical security industry and for all industries. With each profile release and each progression, the organization sees greater industry support for ONVIF and its mission.

Some of the successes of 2014 for ONVIF included our 11th Developers’ Plugfest, our biggest Plugfest yet. We also succeeded in releasing two profiles, ONVIF Profile C for access control and ONVIF Profile G for video storage and recording, both significant to our profile portfolio. In addition, ONVIF was in attendance at the industry’s top trade shows, including as a first-time exhibitor at ISC West. We also increased our level of outreach to the security community for feedback on what ONVIF is doing well and how we might improve our profiles and organization as a whole.

As we look ahead into 2015, ONVIF is poised to have another impactful and important year. We are excited that the Profile Q Release Candidate has been circulated, allowing members and stakeholders a final implementation review. In March, we’ll also host our 12th Developers’ Plugfest in Durham, N.C., sure to be a popular event once again. And we’re excited to again be in attendance at several industry trade shows as well throughout the year.

A lot of great things are happening with ONVIF in the new year and we hope you share our excitement about the new developments to come!

We hope you had an enjoyable holiday season and wish you all the best in the new year.

ONVIF Publishes Profile Q Release Candidate for Easy Configuration, Advanced Security

ONVIF has published the Release Candidate for Profile Q, which gives end users and systems integrators the tools that they need to connect systems and devices as seamlessly as possible. This new profile also ensures that every Profile Q conformant product will have ONVIF enabled automatically as the default setting.

Profile Q works across brands and profiles with quick configuration and installation, providing innate discoverability and strong device monitoring and event management capabilities. Profile Q also supports Transport Layer Security (TLS), the protocol designed to provide secure communication between devices and clients, with an authentication process involving the exchange of certificates and keys over a network.

Profile Q will be in ‘Release Candidate’ status for six months, allowing members and stakeholders a final implementation review. When that process is complete, the final profile is published and technology providers will be able to test their products for conformance to the final version of Profile Q.

ONVIF hosted its 11th Developers’ Plugfest in late September in Dusseldorf, Germany. With record numbers of interoperability implementations and multiple testings of ONVIF conformant video, access control and edge devices, this Developers’ Plugfest was the most fruitful in ONVIF’s history.

The Dusseldorf Developers’ Plugfest, held in conjunction with security essen, allowed member companies to verify their products’ ONVIF interoperability with other manufacturers’ products. This year’s Plugfest included 29 companies and more than 60 attendees. Plugfest attendees logged 249 hours of total testing time during the threeday event, with all of ONVIF’s profiles tested for interoperability.

ONVIF also hosted a public interoperability demonstration and reception during security essen. ONVIF members showcased devices and clients that are conformant with ONVIF profiles. ONVIF was an exhibitor as well at the 60th Annual ASIS International Seminar and Exhibition, also in late September, in Atlanta, Georgia, hosting conversations with conference attendees regarding their experiences with ONVIF.

ONVIF Launches Education, Enforcement Campaign to Ensure Product Conformance

A proactive education and enforcement campaign was launched by ONVIF late last year, designed to ensure that all claims of ONVIF conformance by manufacturers of IPbased
physical security products are valid.

The education and enforcement initiative aims to further protect the ONVIF brand and more preemptively monitor ONVIF’s copyrights, trademarks and logos on an ongoing basis. The campaign helps further educate the manufacturing community about the specific requirements of compliance and their ability to advertise individual products as ONVIF
conformant.

The only method of determining a product’s conformance is through a listing on the ONVIF website, where conformant products can be easily searched using a variety of criteria. An entry on the ONVIF website signifies that the product has undergone ONVIF’s comprehensive testing and conformance process, and has been individually certified by ONVIF as conformant.
