ONVIF Newsletter June 2016
Dear friends and colleagues,
As we head into summer, I am writing to give you a brief update on ONVIF’s activities, what is coming up in the near future and how you can get involved.
I am happy to report that ONVIF’s specification for access control was recently adopted by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) global standards organization. This is a notable accomplishment for ONVIF because it means that the ONVIF specification will be used in security and nonsecurity projects throughout the world. It also shows how standards groups from different industries are collaborating together, working in concert with one another in their efforts to broaden interoperability. ONVIF also has a new, internal committee, the Use Case Working Group, which will develop new use cases in response to what is happening in the market and thus will contribute to profile and specification development.

IFSEC International is just around the corner and as a sponsor of the IFSEC Café, we look forward to seeing many of you at the show in London in June. Please come by the IFSEC Café, have a coffee on us and learn more about what ONVIF has to offer manufacturers, systems integrators and end users.
ONVIF just held its 14th ONVIF Developers’ Plugfest in London, June 13. Photos from the event are available on ONVIF’s social media channels. Our plugfests are a great way for engineers from member companies to test their clients and devices for ONVIF conformance and also is a great networking opportunity.
It has been a busy 2016 thus far for ONVIF! You can read more in the newsletter about my presentation on cyber security and the Internet of Things at PSA Tec 2016 in Colorado, USA in May, our new Use Case Working Group, ONVIF’s work with the IEC and much more.
Enjoy these ONVIF updates and please let us know if you have any questions. Look for us at IFSEC 2016 in June and stop by and say hello. In the meantime, follow us on social media for all the latest ONVIF news.
Here’s wishing you a wonderful (and relaxing) summer.
Regards,
Per Björkdahl
Chairman, Steering Committee for ONVIF
