Greetings from Per Björkdahl!
Hello, everyone. I hope your summer holidays were relaxing and restful, well spent with family, friends and loved ones. With autumn now in full swing, ONVIF is working hard to prepare for our 13th Developers’ PlugFest in November and numerous other events and releases to close out the year.
As many of you know, ONVIF has recently published its fifth profile, Profile A for Advanced Access Control. This profile is currently in release candidate status in order to provide the industry time to review the profile before its final version is released. Profile A, our newest access control profile, is designed to establish an interface for access control clients and expands upon Profile C, ONVIF’s first access control profile released in early 2014. Profile A encompasses comprehensive features and functions, which translates into more opportunities for integration.
ONVIF has also reached some milestones recently. In addition to the development of our fifth profile, Profile A, our membership has crested in number, as has the number of ONVIF conformant products available to the market today. ONVIF continues to expand its influence and its specifications are garnering acceptance and popularity within the industry.
Enjoy our recent updates and all of ONVIF wishes you a fruitful and productive autumn, wherever you may be.
Best regards,
Per Björkdahl
Chairman, Steering Committee

Profile A Release Candidate Published
ONVIF has recently announced the Release Candidate for Profile A, a draft specification that establishes an interface for access control clients and expands the configuration options for ONVIF conformant access control systems.
Profile A encompasses the tasks of common, day to day access control functions for users such as security officers, receptionists or human resource professionals who grant and revoke employee credentials, create and update schedules and make changes to access control privileges within the system. Available for review on the ONVIF website, Profile A enables the configuration of these functions at the access control client level.
“Profile A is the next step in enabling interoperability within the access control market by moving beyond basic event management and door access control and enabling integration between access control and IP video management systems when combined with ONVIF Profile C and Profile S,” said Suresh Raman, Senior Consultant, Siemens Technology and Services Private Limited and Chair of the ONVIF Profile A Working Group.
Profile A will remain in ‘Release Candidate’ for six months, allowing members and stakeholders a final implementation review. The process is intended to allow members to more quickly introduce conformant products when the final version of Profile A is released in 2016.
