ONVIF holds open reception at ASIS trade show in Dallas, USA

  • Media and trade show visitors and exhibitors invited
  • Presentation about the future direction of ONVIF
  • New working groups established for physical access control systems

San Ramon, CA. ndash; September 30, 2010. ONVIF, the leading standardization initiative for IP-based physical security products, today announces that it will host an open networking breakfast at the upcoming ASIS trade show in Dallas, TX, USA on October 14, 2010. The event is an opportunity for visitors to hear the latest news from ONVIF and get an update on the ONVIF interoperability event that took place at Security Essen in Germany the preceding week.

ONVIF also announces that it recently established multiple working groups to develop a global standard for interoperability between network video products and physical access control systems.

ldquo;The extended scope of ONVIF to also cover access control systems was announced in April this year, rdquo; says Jonas Andersson, Axis Communications, and Chairman of ONVIF rsquo;s Steering Committee. ldquo;New working groups have been formed and they are now up and running, specifying the requirements for this extended standard. rdquo;

In addition to the working groups for physical access control systems, new working groups have been formed that, among other things, focus on simplifying for vendors to implement ONVIF in their products.

ldquo;The uptake of ONVIF in the industry so far has been beyond our expectations, rdquo; says Mr. Andersson, referring to the more than 250 ONVIF conformant products already available on the market. ldquo;But we want to make it even easier for companies to develop products with ONVIF support, which is why we now establish a group focused on producing guidelines and examples of how to easily implement ONVIF in different types of security and safety devices. rdquo;

The ONVIF networking breakfast will take place at 8.30 a.m., Thursday October 14, at the Dallas Convention Center, Room C143, Area C, Ground Floor.
