ONVIF Newsletter December 2024
Greetings from Leo Levit,
This past year will no doubt be remembered as another light year forward in the increasing use of technologies, such as AI and cloud computing. In 2024, we saw huge strides in the implementation of AI to improve efficiency and automation in many important areas, such as video search, remote monitoring, and others.
As we embrace the benefits of AI, it’s also important to be mindful of any potential disadvantages of the technology. Generative AI provides the tools to transform the user experience of security systems and digitally alter video surveillance footage, falsifying or erasing a record of an incident or “deepfake” an incident that didn’t occur. The need for proof of video authenticity to maintain public trust is a topic of much interest to ONVIF. You can read more about upcoming events where we will discuss this topic with the industry.
Closing out 2024 also marks the launch of an important initiative for ONVIF: our new e-learning module on onvif.org. The first course, “Introduction to ONVIF”, provides a comprehensive overview of how ONVIF works and how our standardized interfaces provide interoperability between IP-based physical security products and services. The course is open to anyone wanting to deepen their knowledge about ONVIF, and it can be accessed here on our website.
Wishing the best of the holiday season to those who celebrate, and a happy and prosperous beginning to the new year to all.
Kind regards,
Leo Levit
Chairman, ONVIF Steering Committee
