ONVIF Newsletter April 2026

Greetings from Leo Levit,

We are fresh off the heels of ISC West in Las Vegas, one of the security industry’s largest annual gatherings — and this year’s event had a different vibe. More mature, more concrete.

It became clear in our conversations that cloud isn’t a roadmap item anymore. AI isn’t a demo. Both are live, generating real outcomes across video surveillance and access control alike. The question now is not whether to deploy them, but how to deploy them well, at scale, and across mixed-manufacturer environments without trading flexibility. Wider adoption of these technologies drives the need for standardization to ensure future interoperability.

This is where the work of ONVIF becomes most relevant. Our cloud connectivity standards are designed precisely for this moment, when deployments are growing more complex, and the stakes of proprietary lock-in are higher. Open standards don’t just facilitate progress. They make it sustainable.

To that end, we are setting the stage for two new standardization efforts, deepening our scope in access control and establishing a framework for interoperability within AI systems.

Kind regards,

Leo Levit
Chair, ONVIF Board of Directors

What’s Baking at ISC West? ONVIF Serves Up Big Interest in 2026

The 2026 ISC West security exhibition in Las Vegas was another strong showing for ONVIF, and the booth generated some amazing foot traffic and conversation, thanks in part to several hundred delicious chocolate cookies!

Our cookie conversation starters – each wrapped with a specific ONVIF Profile – drew attendees into our booth and sparked questions about ONVIF interoperability and video and access control profiles, membership, and the ONVIF conformance process. In addition to our profiles, we also had discussions about our upcoming camera-to-cloud and IP audio profiles and our video integrity process, which can help ensure the authenticity of surveillance video from AI manipulation tools. These topics were the highlights of “What’s Baking at ISC West” with ONVIF!

Check out more about the event in our ISC West blog.

ONVIF Tours Eastern Europe With Regional Events

ONVIF Ambassador Roberto Licari represented the organization at two recent European events, bringing the interoperability message to engaged regional audiences. At the AVIT Convergence Summit, organized by AVITECH Romania, Roberto spoke to security, IT, and A/V professionals on the role open standards play as physical security and audiovisual technologies continue to converge. He also contributed to the A&S Adria SE Europe Roadshow, a multi-city series spanning Podgorica, Tirana, Pristina, and Belgrade that connected global technology leaders with local practitioners across Southeast Europe. Both events reflected a growing regional appetite for interoperability conversations at the ground level.

ONVIF Heads to Secutech Taipei 2026

ONVIF will present a featured session at Taipei Secutech 2026 on the evolving challenges of video authenticity in today’s AI-driven landscape. On April 23 at 10:10 a.m., Joyce Zhou, ONVIF Communications Committee Member, will speak on “Matter of Trust: Media Authenticity in Video Surveillance.” ONVIF Ambassador Roberto Licari will also be onsite, sharing how open, standardized interoperability and the ONVIF profile portfolio support scalable, flexible, vendor-independent security systems, along with insights on ONVIF benefits, membership, conformance, and key topics such as access control, AI, analytics, cloud, audio, and media authenticity.

ONVIF at the SIA Standards Webinar

ONVIF Board Chair Leo Levit joined the Security Industry Association’s annual state-of-the-industry standards webinar alongside leaders from OSDP, PKOC, and other organizations advancing physical security interoperability. Leo covered ONVIF initiatives on camera-to-cloud connectivity, media authenticity protocols to defend against deepfakes, and digital audio standardization for the intercom and audio markets.
