Somehow, we find ourselves in the last few days of 2020, reminiscing on all that\u2019s transpired. For ONVIF<\/a>, it was a year of forward movement – despite the challenges raised by the pandemic. We were fortunate to be able to move forward with our plans to release draft profiles, Profile D<\/a> for access control peripherals, as well as Profile M<\/a>. We also announced the adoption of open-source<\/a> development via the GitHub<\/a> platform, streamlining the specification development processes of ONVIF and opening the opportunity to contribute to our core specification work to the industry at large. Additionally, while we greatly missed seeing our members in person, we were able to move our Developers\u2019 Plugfest<\/a> to a virtual format and were pleased with the numbers in attendance. We were able to attend and participate in several virtual events, webinars and discussions – keeping connected to our industry partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking forward to 2021, we\u2019re excited about the possibilities offered to smaller, innovative companies in the analytics space through the use of Profile M<\/a>. Also, we\u2019re hoping to expand the opportunities for adoption of ONVIF interfaces in the physical access control space through Profile D, as it allows for interoperability<\/a>\u00a0between management software and many access control peripherals – license plate recognition cameras, entry systems and different types of card readers and sensors. We\u2019ll also be highlighting some feature specifications<\/a>, such as Export File Format, which enables law enforcement to more efficiently conduct forensic investigations using video surveillance<\/a> from multiple sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All things considered, 2021 has the potential to be a very busy year for ONVIF. As always, we\u2019ll continue to advocate for interoperability of physical security systems, as the market continues to voice its need for cost-effective, innovative and flexible solutions. With that, we would like to wish all of our members a very happy, safe and prosperous new year!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
